Description |
Sales automation is the use of technology to assist in the sales process. This definition can, and is, interpreted in many different ways. The implication is that there will be more sales if sales automation is implemented successfully.
Additional sales can be achieved if the technology provides better tools for sales people to do their job - tools that ease the administration side of sales, or tools that enhance the ability for sales teams to communicate and collaborate. At Ardexus we refer to these benefits of sales automation as indirect. Because they are indirect, it doesnt mean they are not important - every good sales automation system will be partially devoted to making the salesperson more efficient through indirect benefits.
The direct benefits of sales automation are those that derive from helping the salesperson sell more effectively. These benefits are those that mostly connected with what happens in the sales opportunity. Technology can be used to grade and prioritize a long list of current sales that the salesperson is working - making sure that valuable time is being used in the most effective way possible. It can also be made to help the sales person in the sales process itself, by providing proactive advice on winning strategies - using what we call intelligent response technology.
The best sales automation tools will provide both direct and indirect benefits, providing compounded increases in sales revenue.
In the CRM process diagram we see that sales occupies just one step! The sales opportunities that are handed to the sales department by marketing must be won over the competition - creating new customers. Just one step - yet this is the most important step toward creating success for the company, and this is the step that is handled trough sales automation technology.
At Ardexus we feel that sales automation is the core CRM technology tool, and provides the greatest strategic potential of any of them. CRM is no good unless you have customers. |
